Moroccan Mint Tea

Traditional pouring of Moroccan Mint Tea

As we entered the Sahara Desert by camel, we stopped in a small village to watch a small group of musicians perform and we were served traditional Moroccan Mint Tea. It’s a delicious mix of strong Gunpowder Green Tea, fresh mint leaves, honey or sugar and boiling water. The tea is poured into glasses from height in order to swirl loose tea leaves at the bottom of the glass, while gently aerating the tea to improve its flavor.

We were served mint tea with honey frequently during our two weeks in Morocco. While there are many commercial preparations of mint tea available in supermarkets, none, that we have tried, come close to the delicious taste and fragrance of the mint tea we were served in Morocco.
